Jupiter Software

Product Overview

The Jupiter Software is identical for every Jupiter Subsea Control System ever supplied.  The standard software is configured to specific control applications using a small set-up file.

The Jupiter Software has a variety of features and options that the client can choose from.  All available options are included within the standard software package and are simply enabled on request using the Security Dongle.  Thus a Jupiter System can be upgraded to add new facilities at any time.  New options are continually being added and can be retrofitted to older system if required.

The latest version of Jupiter Software is always available free of charge to all users for the life of the system.  See Jupiter Software Updates for more information.

System Set-up

All Jupiter Subsea Control Systems use the same software;  no special customised version is required for a user’s application.  The software is configured by a single set-up file.  Many different configurations may be maintained and quickly recalled for specific applications.  The user has free access to all aspects of the Jupiter Software set-up and does not require a software engineer to make alterations to the operation of the Jupiter System.  The user can allocate passwords to any part of the Jupiter set-up system to prevent unauthorised alteration.

Naming & Scaling Valves & Sensors

The client can name and scale valve and sensors so that they reflect their usage and display ‘real-world’ values rather than arcane technical numbers.  The valve and sensor names entered by the client are used throughout the whole Jupiter set-up system so the user does not need to remember which valve or sensor they have used for what function.  The Jupiter Software also allows the user to name and control the cameras and lights.

User Alarms

The client can set the system to initiate alarms if limits are exceeded on sensors, diagnostic values or internal variables.  The alarm displays a text message entered by the client and provides an audible alert.

User Defaults

Its is important that a control system reverts into a safe state if communication is lost with the surface.  With User Defaults the client can choose which valves should go into what states after a chosen delay.  This state is also reflected in identical changes to the surface system.  The user can be ‘locked out’ after such an event to ensure that if necessary control can only be gained by suitably authorised personnel.

Datalogger

The client can choose to log any combination of values from sensors, valves, diagnostics, alarms and internal variables.  The log rate and format is selected by the user and can be written to disk or output on a serial port or ethernet to a central logging facility.  The log file can be read by any word processor and includes information on the structure of the log file to avoid misinterpretation of results.  The datalogger facility or spreedsheet also includes a ‘Note Logger’ allowing the client can input any text message into the datalog system where it will be time and date stamped before being stored along with the logged data.

Jupiter Software Advanced Options

Maths Pack

The internal mathematic system allows users to combine sensor values, valve states and other internal variables and to test the results to create functions, interlocks, automatic functions or other ‘mechanisms’.  The mathematics system allows the display of addtional functions on the GUI such as indicators or graphs.  The mathematics system uses simple pull down menus and knowledge of software programming is not required.  The mathematics system also includes arithmetic and boolean functions, filters and timing variables.

Maths Pack Arrays

An addition to the Maths Pack is the ability to use arrays to create non-linear functions (perhaps to calibrate non-linear sensors or mechanisms).  The arrays can be used with sensors, valves or registers and can be imported from text files and can be displayed and edited whilst within the Jupiter Software.

Torque Tool Calibrator

One of the applications of the Jupiter Subsea Control Systems includes the accurate control of Torque Tools.  The Jupiter Software includes an automatic function to test the characteristics of any attached torque tool and to calibrate the system so that accurate control and measurement of torque is guaranteed.  Thus the time consuming manual test and plotting undertaken by technicians is no longer required.  The user can choose from a variety of different calibration methods and settings including the options to set the number of torque steps performed for time critical calibrations and to input torque values manually when a torque analyser serial connection is not available.  The torque tool sensors are verified and constantly monitored during the process to ensure a safe calibration is performed.  The calibration results are stored as a text file which can then be used to produce a detailed calibration report / certificate in pdf format for easy viewing and distribution (see example on right).

Camera Control

This option allows the user direct control of ‘intelligent cameras’ (such as the ROS Inspector, ROS MCZ, Simrad CRAT, Benthos 4200 etc...) and electric Pan and Tilts.

Video Digitiser

Jupiter has the ability to display real time video (PAL/NTSC) directly on a PC or laptop to avoid additional monitors.  The video window can be dynamically hidden, moved, sized or fixed into the graphic background.

High Speed Counters

By using the Jupiter Maths Pack the user can create software counters but for high speed applications the maths pack can enable hardware counters in the subsea electronics and use these to track fast sensors.

User Graphics

All elements visible on the front panel of the Jupiter GUI can be modified by the User Graphics option.  The user can change the postion, size, design and visibility of every valve, sensor, alarm and display on the front panel.  By creating different pages the user can create a GUI that allows complex tasks to be executed with logical interfaces on dedicated screens.

Serial Sensors

The Jupiter subsea hardware has the ability to connect sensor systems that have a variety of serial interfaces.  The software can read data from them directly into the mathematics system.

Console & Survey Links

Jupiter Software enables the user to allow external hardware in the form of control consoles or computers to take control of Jupiter functions or interchange information with other computers thus allowing fully integrated control with other subsea systems.  Using pull down menus the user can link control console switches, knobs and indicators to any Jupiter function or sensor.  The user can also create their own serial protocols and link Jupiter valves, sensors and other functions into their protocol to communicate with external computers.  Available interfaces include USB, RS232, RS485 and Ethernet.

Custom Code

The user may have applications that require complex real time graphics, significant mathermatical processing or other unusual funtionality that is not a standard Jupiter function.  This can still be incorporated into the standard Jupiter Software by the inclusion of a ‘Custom Code Module’ that is read by the Jupiter Software and included into the functionality of the standard system.  The module can be written by the user and password protected to secure any IPR.  Alternatively Zetechtics can create this code to a client’s specification.
